DEXA: (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptomotry)
Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptomotry, also known as a Bone Densitometry, is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss. DEXA scan is the most often used to diagnose osteoporosis. The DEXA test can also assess an individuals risk for developing fractures. Our DEXA equipment is from the Hologic Discovery QDR Series.
Our DEXA:
- It is open and comfortable for our patients.
- We recommend DEXA Scans for pre-operative planning on all of our total joint replacement patients, and patients with a recent fracture. In the healthy patient, a baseline study should be obtained for annual comparison of their bone density.
- We are happy to provide you and your primary care physician with a copy of your DEXA results.
